Sincalide
Synthetic cholecystokinin peptide (cholecystokinin 8)
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Sincalide is the synthetic C-terminal octapeptide of cholecystokinin (CCK-8), the gut hormone released after fatty meals that makes the gallbladder contract and the pancreas secrete enzymes. A sulfated tyrosine is essential for its activity at the CCK1 receptor. Sincalide (Kinevac) is used during hepatobiliary scintigraphy, a HIDA scan, to measure gallbladder ejection fraction, and to collect pancreatic or bile secretions for testing.
An authorisation applies to at least one defined finished product in a stated jurisdiction; it does not apply automatically to this catalogue material.
Questions about Sincalide
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Sincalide?
Sincalide is an eight residue peptide matching the C terminal end of cholecystokinin, with a sulfated tyrosine and an amidated C terminus. The sulfate group is needed for full activity.
What research has been published on Sincalide?
Clinical research focuses on standardising the gallbladder ejection fraction test, comparing infusion durations and doses so results can be compared between centres. Mechanistic studies use it to study CCK1 receptor signalling in gallbladder contraction, pancreatic secretion and satiety.
What batch documentation should accompany Sincalide?
Sincalide: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Loss of the tyrosine sulfate inactivates the peptide, so ask for mass spectrometry confirming the sulfate, HPLC purity with the desulfated form reported and peptide content.
How should Sincalide storage conditions be assessed?
Store Sincalide dry at room temperature or refrigerated as the batch documentation states, protected from light. The sulfate group is acid sensitive, so avoid strongly acidic solutions, and methionine residues make it prone to oxidation.
