Synthetic vasopressin analogue peptide

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Desmopressin (DDAVP, 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin) is a synthetic vasopressin analogue designed to separate the hormone's kidney effect from its blood pressure effect. Removing the N-terminal amine and switching to D-arginine makes it strongly selective for V2 receptors, which concentrate urine, and extends its action. It is used for central diabetes insipidus and night-time urine overproduction, and it releases von Willebrand factor and factor VIII, so it is also used in mild haemophilia A and von Willebrand disease.

Questions about Desmopressin Acetate

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Desmopressin Acetate?

Desmopressin Acetate is the acetate salt of a nine residue vasopressin analogue in which the N terminal amine is removed and arginine at position 8 is replaced by its D form. A disulfide bond closes the ring.

What research has been published on Desmopressin Acetate?

Clinical pharmacology studies cover central diabetes insipidus, nocturia and bleeding disorders, including the risk of low blood sodium. Formulation research compared nasal, oral, sublingual and injected routes, making desmopressin a common model for peptide delivery and absorption studies.

What batch documentation should accompany Desmopressin Acetate?

Desmopressin Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. The certificate should include mass spectrometry confirming the cyclic disulfide, HPLC purity, chiral purity at the D arginine, and acetate and water content.

How should Desmopressin Acetate storage conditions be assessed?

Store lyophilised Desmopressin Acetate at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light. It is fairly stable at slightly acidic pH, but solutions should be kept cold to limit deamidation.
