Nafarelin
Synthetic GnRH agonist peptide
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Nafarelin is a GnRH agonist with 3-(2-naphthyl)-D-alanine at position 6, which makes it around 200 times more potent than natural GnRH. It is given as a nasal spray (Synarel) twice daily. As with other agonists, continued use desensitises the pituitary and lowers oestrogen and testosterone. It has been used for endometriosis, central precocious puberty and pituitary down-regulation before IVF stimulation.
An authorisation applies to at least one defined finished product in a stated jurisdiction; it does not apply automatically to this catalogue material.
Questions about Nafarelin
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Nafarelin?
Nafarelin is a ten residue GnRH analogue with D naphthylalanine at position 6 and the natural glycinamide C terminus. It is usually supplied as the acetate salt.
What research has been published on Nafarelin?
Clinical research compared nafarelin with danazol and other GnRH agonists in endometriosis, studied puberty suppression in children and assessed nasal dosing in IVF protocols. Pharmacokinetic studies examined variable absorption through the nose.
What batch documentation should accompany Nafarelin?
Nafarelin: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity, chiral purity at the D naphthylalanine, and acetate and water content.
How should Nafarelin storage conditions be assessed?
Store Nafarelin dry at room temperature or refrigerated, protected from light, as stated in the batch documentation. Its aromatic residues are light sensitive, and solutions should not be frozen.
