Ganirelix Acetate

Authorised product

Synthetic GnRH antagonist peptide

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Ganirelix is a third-generation gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist, a decapeptide containing several unnatural D-amino acids. Unlike GnRH agonists, which first cause a hormone flare, ganirelix blocks pituitary GnRH receptors straight away, rapidly lowering luteinising hormone (LH). That property made it a standard tool in controlled ovarian stimulation, where it is given for a few days to prevent a premature LH surge. Finished products such as Orgalutran and Fyremadel are authorised for that use.

Questions about Ganirelix Acetate

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Ganirelix Acetate?

Ganirelix Acetate is the acetate salt of a synthetic decapeptide related to GnRH. Several positions carry D amino acids and modified side chains, which make it resistant to enzymes and convert it from a receptor activator into a competitive antagonist.

What research has been published on Ganirelix Acetate?

Randomised trials in assisted reproduction compared ganirelix protocols with long GnRH agonist protocols, measuring premature LH surges, oocyte yield, pregnancy rates and the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Pharmacokinetic studies described rapid absorption after injection and dose related LH suppression.

What batch documentation should accompany Ganirelix Acetate?

Ganirelix Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Because the molecule contains multiple D amino acids, ask for chiral or enantiomeric purity data alongside mass spectrometry, HPLC purity and acetate content.

How should Ganirelix Acetate storage conditions be assessed?

Ganirelix Acetate in lyophilised form should be kept dry at 2°C to 8°C, or frozen for long term holding, and protected from light. Avoid repeated warming and cooling of opened vials.
