Histrelin Acetate

Authorised product

Synthetic GnRH agonist peptide

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Histrelin is a potent GnRH agonist with a benzyl-protected D-histidine at position 6 and an ethylamide at position 9. Like other agonists it first stimulates the pituitary, then desensitises it with continuous exposure, lowering sex hormones to castrate or prepubertal levels. Its best-known form is a hydrogel implant placed under the skin of the upper arm that releases histrelin for about a year: Supprelin LA for central precocious puberty and Vantas for advanced prostate cancer.

Questions about Histrelin Acetate

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Histrelin Acetate?

Histrelin Acetate is the acetate salt of a nine residue GnRH analogue. A benzylated D histidine at position 6 and an ethylamide at the C terminus give it high receptor affinity and resistance to enzymatic breakdown.

What research has been published on Histrelin Acetate?

Studies of the implant in central precocious puberty measured suppression of LH responses, growth velocity and bone age progression over a year, while prostate cancer studies measured testosterone suppression. Research also covers implant insertion and removal and how suppression is maintained.

What batch documentation should accompany Histrelin Acetate?

Histrelin Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity with chiral purity for the D histidine residue, and acetate and water content for accurate peptide quantity.

How should Histrelin Acetate storage conditions be assessed?

Store Histrelin Acetate lyophilised at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light. The finished implants also require refrigeration, which reflects how sensitive the peptide is to heat over time.
