Goserelin
Synthetic GnRH agonist peptide
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Goserelin is a GnRH agonist best known as Zoladex, a small biodegradable rod injected under the skin of the abdomen that releases the drug over one or three months. Its structure has D-Ser(tBu) at position 6 and azaglycine amide at the C-terminus. Like other agonists, it suppresses the pituitary after an initial flare, lowering sex hormones. It is used in prostate cancer, premenopausal hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, endometriosis and before some uterine surgery.
An authorisation applies to at least one defined finished product in a stated jurisdiction; it does not apply automatically to this catalogue material.
Questions about Goserelin
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Goserelin?
Goserelin is a ten residue GnRH analogue in which the C terminal glycine is replaced by azaglycine and position 6 carries a tert butyl protected D serine. It is usually supplied as the acetate salt.
What research has been published on Goserelin?
Clinical trials examined ovarian suppression in premenopausal breast cancer, testosterone suppression and survival in prostate cancer, and endometrial thinning before surgery. The implant itself is a long standing model for polymer based peptide delivery.
What batch documentation should accompany Goserelin?
Goserelin: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry confirming the azaglycine end, HPLC purity, chiral purity at position 6 and the acetate content.
How should Goserelin storage conditions be assessed?
Store Goserelin dry at or below 25°C, protected from light and moisture, or refrigerated for long holding. Its tert butyl group can be lost under strongly acidic conditions.
