Buserelin
Early humanSynthetic GnRH agonist peptide
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Buserelin is a GnRH agonist with D-Ser(tBu) at position 6 and an ethylamide C-terminus. Its distinctive feature is that it can be given as a nasal spray as well as by injection or implant. It became widely used in IVF 'long protocols' to switch off the pituitary before ovarian stimulation, and in endometriosis and prostate cancer (Suprefact). Veterinary forms are used for ovulation timing in cattle.
Limited, exploratory, early phase or small human studies have been identified.
Questions about Buserelin
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Buserelin?
Buserelin is a nine residue GnRH analogue with a tert butyl protected D serine at position 6 and an ethylamide C terminus. It is usually supplied as the acetate salt.
What research has been published on Buserelin?
Historical clinical research covers pituitary down regulation in IVF, endometriosis, hormone sensitive prostate and breast cancer and central precocious puberty. Studies compared nasal and injected routes, which differ in absorption. Veterinary research addresses ovulation induction.
What batch documentation should accompany Buserelin?
Buserelin: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity, chiral purity at position 6 and acetate content, and check that the tert butyl group is intact.
How should Buserelin storage conditions be assessed?
Store Buserelin dry at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light. Avoid strongly acidic solutions, which can remove the tert butyl group.
