Authorised product

Synthetic vasopressin prodrug peptide

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Terlipressin is triglycyl-lysine vasopressin, a prodrug: enzymes gradually remove the three glycines to release lysine vasopressin, giving a longer and steadier effect than vasopressin itself. It acts mainly on V1 receptors to constrict blood vessels in the gut, reducing portal pressure and redirecting blood to the kidneys. It is used for bleeding oesophageal varices in many countries, and the CONFIRM trial led to US approval (Terlivaz) in 2022 for hepatorenal syndrome, with warnings about respiratory failure.

Questions about Terlipressin Acetate

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Terlipressin Acetate?

Terlipressin Acetate is the acetate salt of a 12 residue peptide made of three glycines joined to lysine vasopressin. The vasopressin part keeps its disulfide ring.

What research has been published on Terlipressin Acetate?

Trials in hepatorenal syndrome, including CONFIRM, measured reversal of kidney failure in people with advanced cirrhosis, alongside rates of respiratory failure. Studies in variceal bleeding examined bleeding control and survival, and others compared continuous infusion with bolus doses.

What batch documentation should accompany Terlipressin Acetate?

Terlipressin Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity that separates partly cleaved forms such as diglycyl and lysine vasopressin, and acetate content.

How should Terlipressin Acetate storage conditions be assessed?

Store Terlipressin Acetate refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C and protected from light. Solutions gradually lose their glycine residues, so prepare them fresh for research use.
