Authorised product

Recombinant natriuretic peptide (ANP)

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Carperitide is recombinant alpha-human atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), a 28-amino-acid hormone released by the heart when its walls are stretched. ANP activates the NPR-A receptor, raising cyclic GMP, which widens blood vessels and makes the kidneys excrete more sodium and water. Carperitide (Hanp) has been authorised in Japan since 1995 for acute decompensated heart failure, and most human research comes from Japanese clinical practice and registries.

Questions about Carperitide

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Carperitide?

Carperitide is a 28 residue peptide identical to human alpha atrial natriuretic peptide, produced by recombinant methods. It contains a 17 residue ring formed by a disulfide bond, which is needed for receptor binding.

What research has been published on Carperitide?

Japanese studies and registries examined carperitide infusions in acute heart failure, looking at filling pressures, urine output, kidney function and outcomes. Results on survival have been mixed, and the related peptide nesiritide (BNP) shows that natriuretic peptide therapy remains debated. Laboratory research covers natriuretic peptide receptor signalling.

What batch documentation should accompany Carperitide?

Carperitide: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. The documents should state whether the peptide is recombinant or synthetic, confirm the ring disulfide by mass spectrometry and include HPLC purity with oxidation and deamidation variants.

How should Carperitide storage conditions be assessed?

Carperitide is a hormone with a very short half life in blood and limited stability in solution. Keep it lyophilised at 2°C to 8°C or frozen, protected from light, and prepare solutions immediately before use.
