Felypressin Acetate
Synthetic vasopressin analogue
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Felypressin ([Phe2, Lys8]-vasopressin, also called octapressin) is a synthetic vasopressin analogue used as the vasoconstrictor in prilocaine-felypressin dental local anaesthetics such as Citanest with Octapressin. It narrows blood vessels mainly through V1a receptors on vascular smooth muscle, slowing removal of the anaesthetic from the injection site. Because it has little direct effect on the heart compared with adrenaline, it has been studied in patients for whom adrenaline-containing anaesthetics are a concern.
An authorisation applies to at least one defined finished product in a stated jurisdiction; it does not apply automatically to this catalogue material.
Questions about Felypressin Acetate
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Felypressin Acetate?
Felypressin Acetate is the acetate salt of a nine residue vasopressin analogue in which phenylalanine and lysine replace the natural residues at positions 2 and 8. Like vasopressin, it is cyclised by a disulfide bond between two cysteines.
What research has been published on Felypressin Acetate?
Studies mostly examine felypressin as part of finished dental anaesthetic products, measuring blood pressure, heart rate and local blood flow during dental and cervical procedures. Pharmacology work describes vasopressin V1a receptor activity with minimal antidiuretic effect, and comparisons with adrenaline containing anaesthetics in patients with cardiovascular disease.
What batch documentation should accompany Felypressin Acetate?
Felypressin Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Look for mass spectrometry confirming the cyclic disulfide form, HPLC purity that resolves the reduced and dimerised species, and acetate counterion content so the peptide amount can be calculated.
How should Felypressin Acetate storage conditions be assessed?
Store lyophilised Felypressin Acetate at −20°C or 2°C to 8°C, dry and protected from light. The disulfide bridge can rearrange or form dimers in solution at neutral to alkaline pH, so keep solutions slightly acidic and cold.
