Sermorelin
Late stageSynthetic GHRH analogue peptide
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Sermorelin (GRF 1-29 NH2) is the shortest fully active fragment of human growth hormone-releasing hormone, the first 29 of its 44 amino acids. It stimulates pituitary GHRH receptors, producing pulses of growth hormone that remain under normal feedback control. In the 1990s it was authorised in the US as Geref for diagnosing growth hormone deficiency and treating some children with growth failure, before being withdrawn from the market for commercial reasons in 2008.
Substantial controlled clinical research or late stage development has been identified; this is not a product authorisation claim.
Questions about Sermorelin
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Sermorelin?
Sermorelin is a synthetic 29 residue peptide matching the N terminal part of human GHRH, with an amidated C terminus. It carries the full receptor activity of the 44 residue hormone.
What research has been published on Sermorelin?
Research covered pituitary stimulation tests to tell hypothalamic from pituitary causes of growth hormone deficiency, and paediatric trials measuring growth velocity. Later studies explored effects in older adults, where results were modest. Its rapid breakdown by dipeptidyl peptidase 4 led to more stable analogues such as tesamorelin.
What batch documentation should accompany Sermorelin?
Sermorelin: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity with the methionine sulfoxide form and the N terminal truncation produced by enzymatic cleavage listed, peptide content and acetate content.
How should Sermorelin storage conditions be assessed?
Store lyophilised Sermorelin at 2°C to 8°C or −20°C, protected from light. Its methionine and asparagine residues make it prone to oxidation and deamidation once dissolved, so use solutions quickly.
