Ipamorelin
Early humanSynthetic ghrelin receptor agonist peptide
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide growth hormone secretagogue, Aib-His-D-2Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, developed by Novo Nordisk in the 1990s. It activates the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) to release growth hormone. In animal studies it was notably selective, raising growth hormone without the rises in cortisol and prolactin seen with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6. Human development focused on postoperative ileus, where a registered trial did not show a clear benefit.
Limited, exploratory, early phase or small human studies have been identified.
Questions about Ipamorelin
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Ipamorelin?
Ipamorelin is a synthetic five residue peptide containing aminoisobutyric acid and two D amino acids, ending in an amidated lysine. It belongs to the ghrelin receptor agonist family of growth hormone secretagogues.
What research has been published on Ipamorelin?
Pharmacology studies in pituitary cells, rats and pigs described dose related growth hormone release with little effect on cortisol or prolactin. In humans, a Phase 2 trial examined whether ipamorelin sped recovery of bowel function after abdominal surgery. Wider claims about body composition rest on animal data rather than controlled human trials.
What batch documentation should accompany Ipamorelin?
Ipamorelin: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. The certificate should include mass spectrometry, HPLC purity and chiral purity for the D residues, as well as acetate and water content.
How should Ipamorelin storage conditions be assessed?
Store lyophilised Ipamorelin at −20°C, sealed and protected from light. The small peptide is fairly robust when dry, but solutions should be refrigerated and used within a defined period.
