Teriparatide Acetate
Synthetic parathyroid hormone fragment peptide (PTH 1 34)
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Teriparatide is the first 34 amino acids of human parathyroid hormone (PTH 1-34), the part responsible for its activity at the PTH1 receptor. Given as a daily injection, its intermittent peaks stimulate bone-forming osteoblasts more than bone resorption, so it builds bone, unlike most osteoporosis drugs, which slow loss. The Fracture Prevention Trial showed fewer vertebral and nonvertebral fractures in postmenopausal women, and defined products such as Forteo are authorised for high-risk osteoporosis.
An authorisation applies to at least one defined finished product in a stated jurisdiction; it does not apply automatically to this catalogue material.
Questions about Teriparatide Acetate
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Teriparatide Acetate?
Teriparatide acetate is a synthetic parathyroid hormone fragment (PTH 1 34) peptide used in bone and mineral research focusing on osteoanabolic biology.
What research has been published on Teriparatide Acetate?
Teriparatide Acetate supplies the 1 to 34 fragment of parathyroid hormone, the evidence base for the first bone building osteoporosis medicine. Randomised studies of defined teriparatide products in specified high risk osteoporosis populations found fewer vertebral and nonvertebral fractures and increased bone mineral density. Regulatory status, dose, route, formulation and product quality remain product specific; this catalogue material is not, by itself, an authorised finished drug or evidence of clinical equivalence.
What batch documentation should accompany Teriparatide Acetate?
Teriparatide Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask whether the material is recombinant or synthetic, with mass spectrometry, HPLC purity that reports the two methionine sulfoxide forms, peptide content and acetate content.
How should Teriparatide Acetate storage conditions be assessed?
Store Teriparatide Acetate refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C and never freeze solutions. Its two methionines oxidise readily, so keep vials sealed and protected from light.
