PE 22–28 Acetate
PreclinicalEndogenous peptide fragment (proenkephalin derived)
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
PE 22-28 is a seven-amino-acid peptide, GVSWGLR, derived from spadin, which in turn comes from the propeptide released when sortilin, a neuronal sorting receptor, matures. Spadin and its shorter analogues block TREK-1, a potassium channel whose removal makes mice resistant to depression-like behaviour. PE 22-28 was designed as a more stable, more potent version. Evidence comes from channel assays and mouse studies reporting rapid antidepressant-like effects and increased new neuron formation in the hippocampus; there are no human trials.
Laboratory, computational, ex vivo or animal model research is the main evidence base.
Questions about PE 22–28 Acetate
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is PE 22–28 Acetate?
PE 22–28 Acetate is the acetate salt of a seven residue peptide matching positions 22 to 28 of the sortilin propeptide. It is a shortened analogue of the 17 residue peptide spadin.
What research has been published on PE 22–28 Acetate?
Studies in cells expressing TREK 1 channels measured channel blockade, and mouse studies tested behaviour in depression models, hippocampal neurogenesis and the speed of response compared with standard antidepressants. Evidence remains preclinical and comes mostly from the group that developed it.
What batch documentation should accompany PE 22–28 Acetate?
PE 22–28 Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity, peptide content and acetate content, and note that the tryptophan oxidation product should be listed.
How should PE 22–28 Acetate storage conditions be assessed?
Store PE 22 to 28 Acetate lyophilised at −20°C, sealed and protected from light, because its tryptophan is light sensitive. Keep solutions cold and use them promptly.
