MOG (35–55)
PreclinicalSynthetic encephalitogenic peptide antigen
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
MOG (35-55), MEVGWYRSPFSRVVHLYRNGK, is a 21-amino-acid peptide from myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein, a protein on the outer surface of the myelin sheath. When injected with complete Freund's adjuvant and pertussis toxin, it triggers experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in C57BL/6 mice, the most widely used animal model of multiple sclerosis. The resulting chronic paralysis is driven by T cells and is used to test MS drugs and study immune attack on the nervous system.
Laboratory, computational, ex vivo or animal model research is the main evidence base.
Questions about MOG (35–55)
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is MOG (35–55)?
MOG (35–55) is a synthetic 21 residue peptide matching positions 35 to 55 of mouse and rat myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein. It is an antigen used to provoke autoimmunity in animal models, not a therapeutic agent.
What research has been published on MOG (35–55)?
MOG 35 to 55 induced EAE is used to test multiple sclerosis therapies, study Th1 and Th17 T cell responses, examine blood brain barrier breakdown and investigate remyelination. The model has known limits, as it does not reproduce every feature of human multiple sclerosis.
What batch documentation should accompany MOG (35–55)?
MOG (35–55): Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Because EAE severity varies with peptide quality, ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity of at least the level your protocol needs, peptide content and endotoxin data.
How should MOG (35–55) storage conditions be assessed?
Store MOG 35 to 55 lyophilised at −20°C, sealed and protected from light, as its methionine and tryptophan oxidise. Prepare emulsions fresh on the day of immunisation.
