Thymosin Beta-4

Early human

Endogenous peptide

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) is a 43-amino-acid peptide found in almost all human cells, where it is the main protein that binds free G-actin and controls how much is available to build the cytoskeleton. Outside cells it has been studied for promoting cell migration, blood vessel growth and wound repair. Animal studies covered skin, eye, heart and nerve injury. Human studies are early, including trials of eye drops for dry eye and topical gels for chronic wounds. TB-500 refers to a short synthetic fragment, not the full protein.

Questions about Thymosin Beta-4

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Thymosin Beta-4?

Thymosin Beta 4 is a 43 residue peptide with an acetylated N terminus, highly conserved across mammals. Its LKKTET motif binds monomeric actin.

What research has been published on Thymosin Beta-4?

Laboratory and animal research examined cell migration, angiogenesis and wound closure in models of skin, cornea and heart injury. Early human trials tested eye drops in dry eye and neurotrophic keratitis and topical gels in pressure and venous ulcers, with mixed results. Its N terminal fragment Ac SDKP has separate research.

What batch documentation should accompany Thymosin Beta-4?

Thymosin Beta-4: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. For a 43 residue peptide, ask for intact mass, HPLC purity with truncated sequences reported, confirmation of N terminal acetylation and peptide content, and whether it is recombinant or synthetic.

How should Thymosin Beta-4 storage conditions be assessed?

Store Thymosin Beta 4 lyophilised at −20°C, protected from light. Its methionine can oxidise, so limit exposure to air, and keep solutions cold and in low binding tubes.
