BPC-157

Preclinical

Synthetic peptide fragment (gastric pentadecapeptide)

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

BPC-157 (body protection compound 157) is a 15-amino-acid peptide, GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, based on a fragment of a protein reported in human gastric juice. Almost all research comes from one group in Zagreb, using rat models of tendon, ligament, muscle, gut and blood vessel injury, where it has been reported to speed healing. Proposed mechanisms include effects on nitric oxide signalling and blood vessel growth. Controlled human trials have not been published, and BPC-157 is not authorised as a medicine anywhere.

EVIDENCE LEVEL Preclinical

Laboratory, computational, ex vivo or animal model research is the main evidence base.

Questions about BPC-157

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is BPC-157?

BPC 157 is a synthetic 15 residue peptide, glycine, glutamic acid, proline, proline, proline, glycine, lysine, proline, alanine, aspartic acid, aspartic acid, alanine, glycine, leucine, valine. It is reported to be unusually stable in gastric juice.

What research has been published on BPC-157?

Research is dominated by rodent models of soft tissue, gastrointestinal, tendon, ligament and muscle injury, mostly from a single research group. Independent replication and controlled human studies are lacking, and anti doping authorities list it as a prohibited substance.

What batch documentation should accompany BPC-157?

BPC-157: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Many products are sold under this name, so insist on mass spectrometry matching the 15 residue sequence, HPLC purity and a statement of salt form, acetate or arginate.

How should BPC-157 storage conditions be assessed?

Store lyophilised BPC 157 at −20°C, sealed and away from light. The proline rich sequence is fairly robust, but aspartic acid pairs can rearrange in solution, so keep solutions cold.
