A Macao team releases a large peptide protein interaction resource

PPIKB brings together measured peptide binding data and experimentally resolved protein peptide structures for researchers working on peptide discovery and modelling.

A structured evidence base

On 27 July 2026, Scientific Data published PPIKB, a peptide protein interaction resource developed by researchers at Macao Polytechnic University and Macau University of Science and Technology. The team manually extracted information from peer reviewed papers, public patents and Protein Data Bank records rather than relying on a single experimental source.

Its quantitative module contains 21,845 binding measurements across 2,151 protein targets. The structural module includes 18,005 experimentally resolved protein peptide complexes. Entries include peptide sequence and modification information, binding measurements where available, assay metadata and links between structural and measurement records.

Comparing binding measurements and structures

The authors describe PPIKB as a resource for retrieval, benchmarking, similarity searches and model training. That makes it potentially useful when a research question needs a traceable starting set of peptide protein evidence or a way to compare assay records and structures.

A database does not validate a new candidate by itself. The meaning of a binding result still depends on the assay, the peptide's sequence and modifications, the target construct and the experimental context. The resource is therefore best read as infrastructure for research, not a predictor of clinical performance.

For a peptide hormone example in the catalogue, visit the GLP-1 (7–37) research record. It is a catalogue context, not a PPIKB result.

The Semaglutide research record provides a separate route into peptide hormone research context.
