Pramlintide Acetate
Synthetic amylin analogue peptide
Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.
Research overview
Pramlintide (Symlin) is a synthetic analogue of amylin, a hormone released with insulin from pancreatic beta cells. Natural human amylin readily forms amyloid fibrils, so pramlintide replaces three residues with proline, copied from rat amylin, which does not aggregate. Given before meals alongside insulin, it slows gastric emptying, lowers glucagon after meals and increases fullness. Trials in type 1 and type 2 diabetes showed lower HbA1c and modest weight loss, along with nausea and a risk of severe low blood sugar if insulin is not adjusted.

Questions about Pramlintide Acetate
PRODUCT QUESTIONSWhat is Pramlintide Acetate?
Pramlintide Acetate is the acetate salt of a 37 residue amylin analogue with proline at positions 25, 28 and 29. It keeps amylin's disulfide ring and amidated C terminus while resisting amyloid formation.
What research has been published on Pramlintide Acetate?
Placebo controlled trials added pramlintide to insulin in type 1 and type 2 diabetes, measuring HbA1c, mealtime glucose, weight and adverse events. Mechanistic studies measured gastric emptying and glucagon suppression. It also serves as a reference for newer long acting amylin analogues being developed for obesity.
What batch documentation should accompany Pramlintide Acetate?
Pramlintide Acetate: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry confirming the disulfide and C terminal amide, HPLC purity, peptide content and evidence that aggregates are below a stated limit.
How should Pramlintide Acetate storage conditions be assessed?
Store Pramlintide Acetate refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C and do not freeze solutions. It is most stable at acidic pH, around 4, and aggregates more readily near neutral pH.
