Authorised product

Synthetic glucagon like peptide 1 receptor agonist peptide

Research material. Not for human or animal consumption.

Research overview

Lixisenatide is a once-daily GLP-1 receptor agonist built on exendin-4: one proline is removed near the C-terminus and six lysines are added, which strengthens binding and extends its action. It has a marked effect on after-meal blood glucose, largely by slowing gastric emptying. The ELIXA trial in people with type 2 diabetes after a recent acute coronary event found no increase or decrease in cardiovascular events. Lixisenatide has also been studied in early Parkinson's disease (the LIXIPARK trial).

Questions about Lixisenatide

PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What is Lixisenatide?

Lixisenatide is a 44 residue peptide derived from exendin 4 by deleting the proline at position 38 and adding six lysines at the C terminus. It is amidated at the C terminus.

What research has been published on Lixisenatide?

Clinical research focused on type 2 diabetes, especially control of mealtime glucose. ELIXA established cardiovascular safety, and the LIXIPARK trial reported less progression of motor symptoms over a year in early Parkinson's disease, a finding that needs confirmation.

What batch documentation should accompany Lixisenatide?

Lixisenatide: Ask for the COA and analytical reports for the batch being quoted. Ask for mass spectrometry, HPLC purity that separates sequences missing one or more lysines, and peptide content.

How should Lixisenatide storage conditions be assessed?

Store Lixisenatide refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light, and avoid freezing solutions. Its methionine can oxidise during long storage.
